A New Life and New Goals!

Hello everyone!
So... My last blog post was over a year ago. I am at a completely different place in my life, literally and figuratively. I can't make any promises as to how often I will be updating this blog or to how well written it will be, but here I go!
I moved to San Francisco March 2nd (with two days notice) and began rehearsals for my new ensemble track in Wicked. My first performance was March 30. I don't dance well or often so even a jazz square trips me up sometimes. My track doesn't dance near as much as the others in the show (thank goodness), but I never thought I'd ever be dancing in a show every night! After I started performing in the ensemble, I immediately began rehearsals for Elphaba. I am learning SO MUCH.

My Elphaba put-in* was on May 21st and was an absolutely amazing experience. The whole cast was so supportive and I was painted GREEN for the first time!

That same weekend, our main Elphaba, Eden Espinosa, was out of town so our lovely standby, Felicia Ricci was on for our first four-show weekend. She went on for the matinee on Saturday, and sounded beautiful despite not feeling well. After the show, she asked if I would be okay if she called out for that night's show... Needless to say, I was pretty excited/nervous to make my Elphie debut! Everything went well and there was a full house of supportive fans and audience members there to root me on. After the show and a quick shower to try to get the green out of my ears (unsuccessfully), I went out through the stage door to be greeted by about 30-or so fans! I can't even explain the feelings I had that night. I am humbled and blessed and incredibly grateful for every opportunity I have been given throughout all this.

All I can say, is THANK YOU to every single person who has supported and influenced me in my lifetime. Words cannot express.

So what now?! One of my greatest lifetime dreams has been achieved. What's next? Honestly, I have no idea what is coming. The Wicked company in San Francisco closes at the beginning of September, so I only have a few more months left here.

Some options are: 1) To see if I can get transferred to another Wicked company. This is something that isn't really up to me, so I suppose all I can do for now is put myself out there and hope! 2) To make plans to get an agent and move to New York to audition. This would be exciting now that I have my Actor's Equity membership, and there could be some amazing opportunities out there for my future!

I'm not much of a planner, so it's hard for me to think about not flying by the seat of my pants for once! Scary and adventurous. I feel that I've learned quite a bit about myself in this experience, so I say, BRING IT ON!

In the meantime, now that all my rehearsals are finished (and LOST is over), I have a lot more time on my hands. I have some plans for the present- including getting my pup, Kamiya, some much needed dog training! Other things I would like to do include: learning Japanese to become more educated about my heritage, start a new website with the help of my dear friend, Mayumi, start reading the Dark Tower series, start playing World of Warcraft again (I know... I know...), and to explore the beautiful city of San Francisco as much as I can before I leave! We'll see how many of these things I can get to before September. I have made some beautiful new friends in the cast too, so I can have a social life, or something like it.

Once again, thank you all for everything! And also, it's corny but, FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS! Some are more attainable and nearer than you think they are.
Alyssa

*For those who aren't familiar, a "put-in" is a rehearsal that involves the entire cast but is held for the specific benefit of one or more new people. Like a dress rehearsal, but only the people being put into the show are in costume/hair/makeup. Everyone else is in their regular street clothes. Also, it's like a regular show in that there are lights, and microphones, and some technical elements such as fog and lifts and trap doors.

Back to sitting on children!

FINALLY got a jorb in OKC, and it turns out to be the same babysitting service I worked for back home in Dallas :-) Fine by me! SeekingSitters is a great company and I can leave whenever I need to... (meaning, whenever Telsey calls again.) Already have a few jobs set up for the near future so I can make some money and pay back my unbelievably generous roommate! He's the best. Poor thing. I'm that moochy roommate no one wants to have.

Updates on the Wicked job: I talked to the casting company a few weeks ago, asking if they could give me any information about when they would need me or where I would be working. Their answer was, "You're definitely still on our list, but there's honestly no way of knowing when we'll need you or where you'll be." So there you go. I know about as much as everyone else... which is nothing. I'm still on my dad's medical insurance until they find out that I'm not enrolled in school anymore, so I'm just squeezing the most out of that that I can for the time being.

This transition period has been somewhat emotionally frustrating for me, knowing something great is coming, but not knowing when it will come. My sweet boy, the puppy, Pippin, and a few friends have made it wonderful, but man, do I want to get started. An expected few weeks has turned into a few months. So hopefully it won't be long now! Staying positive :-) It's what I do!

(Yeah I know it's a few days late, but...) Oscar Fashion Review!

Herroh!
Not many people know that I really enjoy fashion... I also like to drool over pretty dresses, so the Academy Awards and award season in general is a beautifully drooly time for me. SO- let's get started with best in my opinion:

NATALIE PORTMAN:
Wowowowowowow... OMG I want it. Gorgeous orchid/lilac/pink color and unbelievable overall. Pretty hair and simple diamond studs finish it off without being gaudy. One of MY fashion icons! I can honestly say that if i could own all of anyone's clothes, it would be hers. Natalie in Rodarte:

ANNE HATHAWAY:
She looked like an icicle... in a good way! Paillettes, paillettes, paillettes! Anne in Armani Privé:

AMY ADAMS:
Lots of critics didn't like this one, but I considered it one of the best of the night! Love her. Amy in a Carolina Herrera gown and a colorful jeweled bib necklace by Fred Leighton:

PENELOPE CRUZ:
Although I'm not a big fan of her acting, Penelope looked nom nom in this vintage Balmain dress with lace detailing. I'm pretty sure now every girl in the U.S. wants this dress for their wedding. Can you believe it is SIXTY years old? I can't! Gimme!

MARISA TOMEI:
Beautiful pleating on Marisa's gown, and the fit is just impeccable! A perfect pick for the oscars. Marisa in Versace:

ROBERT DOWNEY JR.:
Can you believe he finally shaved? I'm glad he did! Robert looked fantabulously clean. Look at those details!:

ZAC EFRON:
Men take note! This is an example of PERFECT tailoring. Good for him. Now if he could only act...:

MILEY CYRUS:
It's Miley!!! Okay okay, I know a LOT of people didn't like this dress, but I actually did! Yes, she did look like a disco ball, but she worked that ridiculousness. Holiday Barbie on top of wedding cake, or not... Miley rocked this tiered beaded Zuhair Murad gown and Mary Norton clutch:

And now for the BAD... The outfits that make you wanna say NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! First off...

KATE WINSLET:
Yeah, the dress is okay, but her hair is what definitely ruined it for me. It looked like Hillary Clinton and Olive Oil from Popeye mated and had a hair baby. Sorry, hon. Kate in Yves Saint Laurent:

JESSICA BIEL:
I swear she's had a nosejob in the past ten years... Anyone with me? Anyways, everyone was pretty much in universal agreement that this dress by Prada... well... sucked. To quote a tweet from @highindustrial, "Jessica Biel's bedsheet bandeau-esque gown screams "****! Your wife's home early!" The red carpet does NOT match the drapes:

PHILIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN:
A brilliant actor fails in the fashion department. I know we're in a recession, but COME ON.

And last, but not least... Alyssa Fox's 2009 Oscar worst dressed goes to...

HEIDI KLUM:
GAH! You'd think that with all those seasons of Project Runway under her belt, that she could have done SO much better than this. Skanky gown, Jane Jetson collar, ridiculous amounts of gaudy jewelry, and bad flat hair=NO. Too much. Heidi in Roland Mouret:

Oh Boy!!!

First blog!!!
Whoopee!!!

I haven't done this since Livejournal back in the day! I had a few ideas for entries, and a Facebook note just wouldn't do :-)

So here I go. Hopefully I can keep up with this thing and update it somewhat often. I should be blogging about things I like, past things I have liked, pictures, videos, updates on my life and career, and most likely some inevitable links to CuteOverload.com. Best.

I do use Google Reader to view my daily web-media feed, so subscribe if you'd like! I would if I were you...

Love and fairies,
